"Early Learning Matters takes pride in using the best materials available on the market in our learning center. I stumbled upon the "Easy-for-Me™ curriculum and materials when searching for a figural reading program for our preschool/kindergarten ages 3-6. Easy-for-Me™ curriculum and materials are different from traditional reading programs on the market.

Sarah Major has engaged all the senses and tied the learning together to make it meaningful, and to maximize a child's ability to remember what are often just abstract symbols and words. This program is well organized, comprehensive, visually pleasing, easy to use, founded in current research, and most importantly, effective."

Easy-for-Me™ Teaching Kit (EFM-TK)
The EFM Teaching Kit contains everything you need to teach 1-6 children to read. The multisensory materials empower you to reach a diverse group of learning styles at one time while ensuring that no child is left out. The program is especially effective in closing gaps in understanding for children who have missed out on some basic skills and are not progressing as they should be. The materials are also perfect for beginners, and if used as outlined, prevent learning difficulties for many children who would otherwise struggle in learning to read.

You may take advantage of this curriculum for children as young as preschool. Read Alphabet Tales like you would any other story book, letting children simply enjoy the stories and gain familiarity with the letter shapes. Display and talk about sight words as children show interest.

Kindergarten is a wonderful time to start the lessons in the Easy-for-Me™ Teaching Manual. Take care to not rush or pressure children. Don't be surprised (as long as you are truly letting the children set the pace) if you find yourself starting lesson 20 by Thanksgiving. This is not a problem! The contents of section one (lessons 1-30) are vital in that they set the foundation for children's ability to succeed in reading. Children will only be working with eight sounds to that point, but will be learning so much about the use of sounds to make words. By the time they reach lesson 20, they will have learned a handful of sight words in addition to their eight sounds, and yet they will be able to start reading the Easy-for-Me™ books. By the end of section one, children will have successfully read seven titles.

If you use this curriculum in 1st grade, plan to go through the lessons as they are laid out; however, the pace will likely pick up. Still, it is critical to avoid moving at the pace of your speediest child. If you are teaching a small group, take your advanced students as far as possible in terms of the sound spellings they can learn. But always keep in mind that all your kids can learn...the focus must be on all children succeeding. Once you are finished with Section 1, the pace will automatically begin to speed up. By Section 3, you will feel like you are rolling downhill on wheels.

For any age child who is struggling, this curriculum is valuable. Start at the beginning and use all the visuals and motions and hints provided. Focus on patterns in words (ex: all the words you can find that contain the spelling pattern you are working on) and prepare to see success!
