This book is full of visual games and tools that can be introduced as early as preschool. There are stylized numbers, a song that helps children relate number symbols with number names, and then there is the foundation of the method, which is the visuals and patterns for the facts to 10.
Most importantly, children do not compute by "counting up" but rather by the "see, say, and do" method. The visual background they receive allows them this fluency with their facts. The work in the series is brain friendly because of the elements of the method that are consistent with how children learn best: patterns, puzzles, visual and kinesthetic elements, and the stories that help children understand and remember concepts. Children don't know they are laying important groundwork for math; they think they are playing! This book forms the basis for the learning in the second and third books.
